It is solidified lava, rich in aluminum and silicates, which is natural volcanic glass, formed after past volcanic eruptions, and due to the speed of the solidification, there was no crystallization. Obsidian is characterized by the hardness of 5.5- 6 on the Mohs scale, and although it is more prevalent in Volcanic regions, examples are also found in countries such as the USA and Mexico. The most common colour is Black and other variations are also possible, including the sought after rainbow, which is more common in Mexico and snowflake, which is more common in Italy and Iceland.
