Includes: (1) PCV Valve Description: A properly functioning Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system is critical to the life of your engine. It draws fresh, filtered air from the air filter through the block in order to remove harmful gasses and moisture that build up in the form of condensation as the engine cools down; moisture that would otherwise damage both internal components and the block itself over time. This system uses manifold vacuum to remove these harmful contaminants and sends them to the intake to burn with the fuel mixture. The PCV Valve is the main functional component of this system: its job is to regulate airflow through the system and prevent any sort of backflow into the block. Depending on how it failed, the valve can cause a few different symptoms, ranging from running lean/rich to excessive moisture in the oil. A faulty valve is also one of the common causes of oil seepage from the valve cover and excessive oil consumption; two common issues with the VQ engine type! A tune up is the ideal time to replace the PCV valve on older cars; however, on newer cars we generally recommend inspecting the valve every 15k-30k miles. Cleaning the valve can help prolong its life, but eventually the internal components will wear out and require replacement. Insulator o-ring sold separately, see Related Items. PCV Valve Location: Unlike earlier model Z-Cars, the PCV Valve is installed directly into the passenger (right) side valve cover, towards the front of the engine. The PCV hose fits on the valve and routes to the intake plenum. (Older model Z's have the valve on the manifold end of the hose instead.) Installation Note: Keep in mind that the valve covers on the 350Z are plastic, and that the PCV valve is threaded in. It will be very easy to damage the threads on the valve cover or worse if over-tightened. We recommend installing the new valve by hand and finishing with an inch-pound specific torque wrench (see below for torque specs). Don't forget to lubricate the o-ring with new engine oil prior to installation. Torque Spec: 03-06: 18-26 in-lb. 07-09: 22 in-lb.
